WHWS Staff - Return your Keycards!

Keycards look like this!

All WHWS staff must return their keycards before they leave for the summer.  The deadline is no later than Tuesday May 10th (same day the dorms close).   If you need your card later than that, talk to Greg Cotterill.

Return keycards to the manila envelope on the wall just inside the main (rear) door.

And seriously folks, we don't have a lot of spare cards left and it's both expensive and difficult to get new cards, so DON'T FORGET TO RETURN THEM!!!

Geneva Red Wings Baseball on WHWS

Summertime is almost here, and that means Geneva Red Wings BASEBALL on WHWS!

This year we broadcasting all home games and we're going to attempt road games as well - it'll be a new and untested system, but we have high hopes!  :-)

Check out the game schedule on the Red Wings website!  First game is Tuesday June 7th at Alleghany County, first home game is Saturday June 11th vs. Webster.

HWS's Herald has NEW WEBSITE!

In it's inaugural edition, they announce this year's commencement speaker, Patrick Corvington - and WHWS will have live coverage of HWS Commencement on Sunday May 15th!

Reel Big Fish on the HWS Quad - Apr.30th!

Check it out!  Reel Big Fish are playing the Hobart Quad on Saturday April 30th!  And HWS's own The Scope is opening!

Reel Big Fish is an alternative rock band from Huntington Beach, Calif., whose members have been performing together for more than 15 years. The group is well known for its 1997 hit single Sell Out. Its album Turn the Radio Off, which hosted the single, was certified gold that year and lasted 32 weeks on the Billboard charts. Reel Big Fish has released seven complete studio albums. The band's latest album, "A Best of Us for the Rest of Us," was released in January of 2010. CAB organizers expect the band to play many of their hit songs, old and new, while on campus.

"The Scope" comprised of Hobart students, Andrew Tarnas-Raskan '11, Sarik Kumar '11 and Andrew Mahoney '11.

No Parking at WHWS

To all visitors coming to WHWS: starting Thursday 4/21 and lasting a least a couple of days, Hobart & William Smith Colleges will be re-grading our parking lot and fixing a lot of the potholes.  This means nobody can park in our lot.

Instead, please park in the Scandling lot, adjacent to ours (entrance is off of Pulteney Street).

SATURDAY is RECORD STORE DAY

Saturday, April 16th is RECORD STORE DAY - support your local record store, which in our case is AREA RECORDS on Seneca St. in downtown Geneva.  (right next door to the Smith Opera House)

Area Records faithfully has WHWS on their radios in the store all the time, and they sponsor The Metallic Onslaught on our sister station, WEOS, so show them a little love back today!

MOVED TO SUNDAY! The Big Fein Daddy Benefit Concert!

on the HWS Quad it's the Big Fein Daddy live benefit concert featuring The Chris Nathan Band.   Now at a new date/time due to rain in the forecast for Saturday.


It's an incredible concert in memory of Hobart Lacrosse legend Jon Feinstein, whose passion was finding ways to make life better for children in need.  $5 donations are appreciated, proceeds will help provide medical care to children without health insurance, treated at Geneva General Hospital.   Featuring the Chris Nathan Band, music director Michael Mancini and the "Fein Daddy Horns" - the amazing members of the horn section from Southside Johnny, Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, led by Tommy Labella.

William Smith LACROSSE on WHWS - Friday April 15th

This Friday on the HWS Sportshour (2-4pm) we have Ted Baker LIVE from Schenectady with the pre-game for the WS/Union College women's lacrosse game.   Pre-game starts around 3:30 or so, faceoff is at 4pm.

Plus we'll look ahead to Saturday's WS lacrosse game at Skidmore, and Hobart's game vs. Bellarmine!

HWS / IDEA Round Robin DEBATE Broadcast on WHWS TONIGHT!

Tonight at 7:00pm, WHWS will re-air the final round of the HWS / IDEA Round Robin Debate from the previous weekend. Tune in if you missed the debate the first time around!

The finalist debate teams were from:

• University of Toronto
• Massachusetts Institute of Technology
• Stanford University
• Oxford University

Debate topics are not released to the teams until 15 minutes before the debate begins, and no electronic research is allowed once the topic is released.   The final debate's topic was: This house believes that whenever individuals have a choice between spending their money on luxuries or donating it to ameliorating suffering, morality demands donating.

Tune in for an entertaining and intense debate!  Or, you can download audio of the debate from the WEOS Jukebox, too.

Internet Audio Streaming is Flaky

We are aware that there is something wrong with our live webcast; we believe it's a problem with Live365 but having a lot of trouble nailing it down.  Whatever it is, it's causing the stream to randomly drop out for 5 to 10 minutes at a time every half-hour or so.

The Takeaway continues on WHWS!

Our experiment with airing The Takeaway with John Hockenberry and Celeste Headlee has been so successful that WHWS will be keeping the show on its airwaves indefinitely!  Yay!

Beginning Friday April 8th, you'll hear The Takeaway every weekday morning from 8am to 10am.   Radio Bilingue will then be from 1am to 8am weekdays.   And remember that you can hear The Takeaway weekdays from 6am to 8am on WITH 90.1FM in the Ithaca area, too.

And don't forget that John Hockenberry will be speaking at the Hobart & William Smith President's Forum on Thursday April 7th at 7:30pm, in the Vandervort Room of the Scandling Student Center.  The Forum is free and open to the public, and it'll be broadcast live on our sister station, WEOS 89.7FM.
